Rockport Publishers/Quarry Books is an international publisher of high-quality visual and idea books for design professionals and creative enthusiasts -- crafters, artisans, epicures, and designers. We are seeking submissions for possible publication in 1000 Ideas for Decorating Cakes, Cupcakes & Cookies, an upcoming book by Sandra Salamony (coauthor of 1000 Artisan Textiles, author of 1000 Jewelry Inspirations ) and Gina M. Brown (coauthor of 1000 Artisan Textiles). We are looking for the finest artisan-made examples of:
* decorated cupcakes
High quality photography is essential. We are looking for photographs of the finished work, not step-by-step shots. Home bakers, pastry chefs, and independent artisan bakeries are all eligible to submit.
* holiday/theme cakes * cutout and other embellished cookies * wedding cakes * any beautifully decorated dessert |
TO SUBMIT:
1. Email 1000cakes@sbcglobal.net, and either include a link to your website/online portfolio for our review, or attach no more than 4 low-res JPEG images of your work (each file should be under 1 MB). Name each attachment with your last name, and the numbers 1-4. 2. If your low-resolution images are provisionally accepted, you will be given instructions on how to upload the corresponding high resolution files, and you will be required to fill out a Grant of Rights form allowing the publisher the permission to print your images. At this time, we may invite you to submit an additional 6 high-res images, for a total of no more than 10 photos entered into the final jurying round. 3. 1000 images will be selected for publication. If selected, you will not be required to provide directions on how to make your dessert, but you will need to briefly describe your techniques. Published contributors will be credited on the pages where their image(s) appear, as well as in the artist directory. Contributors will also have the opportunity to purchase copies of the book at a 50% discount. Deadline: January 8, 2010. Acceptance begins immediately: early submissions are encouraged. November 4, 2009: Submissions are rolling in! Great work, everyone. If you've already been through the "upload high res" files step, please note that I move your box.net folder off the public server onto a backup private server as soon as I've downloaded your files. So, don't worry if you check back on box.net and your file has gone missing. If you need to upload additional files, just make a new file and append "_new" after your folder name. March 2, 2010: The submissions process is over, and what a wonderful selection of treats we have! There were more submissions than we expected, so it will take another couple of weeks to cull them down to the best 1000. We appreciate your patience, and will do our best to contact everyone by the end of March. But, please feel free to write us if you have any questions while you wait.March 3, 2010: This just in! The title of the book has been changed to "1000 Cupcakes, Cookies & Cakes." March 29, 2010: Well, the results are in. Gina will be contacting submitters this week and next. If you don't hear from us, please feel free to email 1000Cakes@sbcglobal.net. We noticed that the cover is on amazon already -- PLEASE don't get too excited yet if your submission is on the cover! This is an early "dummy" cover. Featured desserts could change when the final cover is designed. They could stay the same, too... We'll post a downloadable PDF of the cover here when it's approved and available. |
